Done with Meta
In 2020 and 2021 my little Art & Reiki business had the best years ever. I attribute this to a lot of things, but one of them was Instagram. I had a small but dedicated following and almost all of my sales happened in my DMs. I felt like I had a real community there and it was a great way to build deeper connections. I felt supported and seen.
Fast forward to 2024. I had taken a couple of years off to grieve the loss of my husband, and I was slowly rediscovering my purpose and motivation. But Instagram had changed. I am not one to blame the algorithm for everything, but I was no longer seen by my followers and I was not seeing the folks I wanted to be connected with, either. To make matters worse, AI had appeared and was (is) being trained by all of our art and our faces--everything we posted there.
I do not want to feed the AI monster anymore. I don't want my art, which I pour my soul into, to be any more a part of the this machine than it already is. I don't want my face, or my kids' faces, to be a part of it either. I never agreed to it and I will not participate any more than I have to. I am in the process of deleting my posts.
