Happy New Year! 2025

"Happy New Year" feels like a phrase wrought with irony this year.  We have been watching a genocide in real time for 14 months now; the upcoming presidency is less than hopeful (to put it extremely kindly); people are struggling in so many ways.

Personally, however, while I am feeling all of those things I also have a sense of hope rekindled.  I have always felt the collective surge of possibility and new beginnings on New Year's Day, regardless of the fact that it is just an arbitrary date on the calendar. These feelings are emphasized by the fact that December is over, and I survived.

December is a hard month for my family.  We lost my husband on NYE in 2021 when he succumbed to liver and kidney failure after years of alcohol addiction. In December 2022 we lost his mom to her fight with cancer.  And in 2023 we lost my sister in law and nephew (also in December), who were killed by a drunk driver while coming home from school.  So I couldn't help but feel a sense of dread when December came around this year, and thankfully a sense of lightness when it was over.

A dark haired woman with gold freckles smiling at the camera. Behind her is a painting of another dark haired woman and a stag resting its head on her shoulders. There is a full, golden moon behind them. The woman in the painting wears a green dress covered in flowers.
I am more than happy to take hold of this lightness and let it carry me as far as I can go! One thing that has helped me with my own healing and that continues to inspire me is to make art and share reiki with others.  I'll be holding monthly groups this year--one is a lunchtime group reiki session, and the other is an evening art & reiki group--to make these two healing modalities super accessible for you.
I will also be blogging every week, which feels very old-school but I am looking forward to it as one of several alternatives to the social media I was relying on so heavily in the past.
If you want to keep up and make sure you don't miss anything, sign up for my monthly emails!  When you do, you'll get some lovely gifts for a whole week.  Just scroll down to the bottom of this page to sign up.
I hope you have a wonderful 2025.  May you find seeds of hope and light no matter what else is happening.
